January's albums
Posted on 15/01/04 at 10:30 by Dead Ball Descendant
lifted straight out of one of our mags of course. I've really no idea who any of these cunts are.

Junior Jack - Trust It

(Defected)

After the huge club smash 'Thrill Me', which was followed by this summer's crossover Ibiza hit 'E-Samba', Vito Lucente gives us his excellent album. It's very cool, featuring both hits, plus a real mixed bag of house, electro and disco cuts. Standouts for me are the jazzy 'The Roots', the MAW-ish 'Alone' & the live sounding 'Must Be The Darkness'. 'Thrill Me' also still sounds amazing. An all-round success. I'd recommend buying this album right away.

V/A - Jazz In The House 12 Compiled By Phil Asher

(Slip N Slide)

House compilations don't come much classier then the 'Jazz In The House' collection, so with Restless Soul's Asher at the controls it's no surprise this is a gorgeous album of wonderful grooves. It's an unmixed album too, which makes a nice change. If mellow vocal house cuts are your thing, the inclusion of Blaze, Nathan Haines, Rain People and Blak Beat Niks will no doubt convince you of the quality on offer here. Simply superb.

stacey pullen - fabric14

(Fabric)

The Fabric series continues to please, this time with Detroit's original protege Stacey Pullen in the mix. Moving from the tribal bounce of Cutlab, to BB Boogie's chic-style call outs, through to DIY's afro-infused tech-house, this is a veritable pick 'n mix of great house sounds. Makes you feel all tingly inside.

Ennio Morricone 'Remixes Volume 2' (Compost Records)

After the success of the first remix CD we get another instalment of Morricone offerings, all twisted at the hands of current producers. Some work, some don't, but overall it's a cool and interesting listen. Tom Middleton really works his magic on 'Come Maddalena', Chicken Lips do their thing on 'Teorema' and Nick Holder and Kaje come up trumps with 'Ninna Nanna Per Adulti'. Over the two CDs there are some real surprises. Worth checking out for an entertaining listen.

Funky DL - The Classic Fantasy (Washington Classics)

This is DLs sixth album, making him one of the most established UK heads around. Having been there since the beginning he's taken his UK thing down a different path, always producing a polished and tight sound. Each track is introduced by a small taster of the minutes to come - melody, precision beats and a classic hip hop message delivered with finess. A world minded record which, having gone from UK crap to UK rap", seems to say it all.

Project Blowed - The Good Brothers

(Decon)

The wait is over. US head Aceyalone comes back at us with some Good Brothers and good rhymes. He offers production and verse duties to the likes of RJD2 and Raaka Iriscience. Riddlore, second in command, works with PMG to maintain a tidy collage of hip hop style. The stand out tune is unsurprisingly the single 'Give It Up' - a minimal lazy percussion track that any street team MC dreams of rhyming on. The collective approach has the US sound covered from most angles.
