ENGLAND SUFFER FOR WAYNE'S GREED
Posted on 02/05/06 at 04:13 by ABU
As Wayne Rooney eases himself down onto his sofa and switches on the Cartoon Channel this morning, he must look back on the last 2 years with regret over the missed chances in his career. Dazzled by the money offered by The Franchise he took the quick buck over personal achievement and trophies. If his choices had been different he could be enjoying a second successive title success, an FA Cup appearance to go with a Champions League medal already in the bag, or even be waiting in anticipation for his first appearance in a European cup final. As it is, all he has to show is a Worthless Cup medal, a broken foot and a full bank balance.

He must also be thinking back to his manager's disregard for his well being. Already a recording is doing the rounds apparently made outside the rags' dressing room on a camera phone by a Chelsea steward and now being offered to the media. It reveals a fuming Sir Alex haranguing his injured star for being a wimp and coming off before the end of the match. Even the intervention of Gary Neville cannot calm Redface who puts his captain firmly in his place with a round of expletives and taunts about gimp suits. The young star had charged round the pitch like a headless chicken all game, giving away fouls and inflicting a painful injury on his England teammate Terry in the hope of pleasing his Manager and all to no avail.

Its not as though he didn't realise what was awaiting him at OT. Notorious for burning out their young players, already at just 20 years old, Rooney has played an incredible amount of football for someone so young and indeed hasn't missed a game this season. While other clubs rest their young players, at the Franchise they're driven into the ground as the likes of Scholes, Butt (both finished by 30), Brown and Sharpe attest. The biggest factor though is Ferguson himself. His hatred of anything English is well known and indeed went as far as threatening his resignation when the Manure board offered to host the England qualifiers during Wembley's rebuilding. We can only hope that Sven resists the urge to take Rooney to the World Cup and he gets a rest rather than come on as a half fit talisman. But there is a sting in the tail this morning even for Redface and their plastic anti-English fans. Metatarsal's take months to heal properly and don't expect to see an on-song Rooney before the new year, probably much too late for The Franchise to launch a challenge for the major honours next season. That will be the only consolation for England fans this morning. Meanwhile, Rooney will gaze round at the walls of his mansion. flick through the pages of his granny porn magazines and think back to what might have been if he'd chosen ambition over money,
