| CORRUPTION AT FC UNITED AS MONEY TAKES OVER |
| Posted on 24/04/06 at 07:27 by ABU |
Less than a season into their brave new start ,and its all starting to smell a bit rotten down at Gigg Lane. Now we all know the rags are hypocrites as far as commercialism is concerned. They all moaned their heads off when they got taken over by Glazer but barely uttered a word of protest when they became a Plc. That outpost of integrity, Red Issue, regularly complains about commercialism and advocates boycotts of club sponsors yet they use Vodaphone and other corporate adverts all over their site. But FC United was supposed to be different. A proper club run by the fans, for the fans, without the input of big business they said. And yet already the board members of FC United have their noses in the trough.
A long standing Red Ish member, Fat Al, asked me to investigate and its not
a pretty sight. Its recently been divulged that board members Vasco Wackril (good Manc name there) has been selling unofficial FC United merchandise through his company T-shirts United, whilst two other board members, Luc Zentars (!) and Tony Pritchard has been doing the same with their company T-Shirt Factory. They claim there is no problem with this as they have declared their interest and the unofficial merchandise is not a duplication of the official FC United range. However, anyone can argue that the reason that FC United don't sell the same range of products as the board members companies is because the board members don't want to cut off their profits. If its not legally wrong, its certainly morally wrong given the aspirations that the club were set-up to follow. Ironically, the whistle was blown by another rag who was apparently upset when his travel firm was rebuffed by FC United as official Club travel. This is not the first time corruption has been alleged at FC United. 5 months ago it was rumoured that Ronaldo and O'Shea were using their connections in the gay and lesbian press to publicise FC United as the first "pink" club and anyone who knows Gary Neville must wonder if there was a connection between his gimp suit suppliers sponsoring a FC United game
But didn't we all know it would turn sour? The sad fact is FC United are no different from Man U. Only the name and scale of the business has changed - the blatant commercialism is still there for all to see. In the Constitution they profess to follow, is the following:
Core principle No.7 The board will strive to avoid commercialism
But this has been abandoned in the rush to get rich off the back of plastics rags from Torquay to Calcutta. As my old man used to say, you can take the rag out of ManU but you cant take ManU out of the rag.
